Yes, as long as HMSA has an authorized representative form, power of attorney, or other legal document (e.g., advance health care directive) on file that gives the family member authority to act on your behalf. Can I add my own dollars to the card?
No. You can’t add your own money to your Extra Benefits card.
Can I return an OTC item I ordered?
No. Due to the personal nature of these products, we can’t accept returns from online/catalog orders.
Can I share OTC items with my family members or friends?
No. OTC items are for your use only. Using these funds to order items for anyone other than yourself is prohibited.
Can I spend more than my monthly benefit?
No. You can’t spend more than your current balance.
Can I use my OTC allowance to purchase items on other online retailer sites?
No. Your OTC allowance can only be used to order items from the OTC Health Products catalog, at HMSAExtraBenefits.com, or in-store at select retailers
Do I have to pay for shipping?
No. Shipping is free when you order through the catalog.
Do the funds on my card expire?
Yes. Funds are loaded onto your card at the beginning of every month (i.e., January 1, February 1, March 1, and April 1) and expire at the end of each month (January 31, February 28, March 31, and April 30). Unused funds don’t carry over to the next month.
How can I check my card balance?
Call 1-(800)-790-6019, option 1, seven days a week. (TTY 711). You’ll need to have your card number on hand.

How do I activate my card?
You must activate your card before you can use it for in-store purchases. You can do one of these two ways:
1. Call 1-(844)-210-2175 (TTY 711). You’ll be asked for your card number and the card expiration date.
2. Log in to HMSAExtraBenefits.com or the myTotal Benefits app. Click My Account. Then select Activate Card from the drop-down menu.

How do I get the myTotal Benefits app?

To use your Extra Benefits card:

How long does it take for my order to get to me?

Is there a limit to how many orders I can place?

What happens if an item is damaged during shipment?

What happens if I disenroll from my health plan?
If you disenroll from your health plan, your benefits will end on the date your disenrollment becomes effective. Your Extra Benefits card won’t work after this date and any funds on the card will expire.
What happens if I mail an order form on the last day of the quarter?
We’ll deduct funds from your balance based on the date we get your order. For example, if you mail your order form March 31 and we get it April 5, we’ll deduct the funds from your April balance. If you’re ordering by mail and want to spend your current balance, be sure to send it well before the end of the quarter. If it’s getting close to the end of quarter, you can:
• Order online anytime before midnight Hawaii time on the last day of the quarter.
• Order by phone until 8 p.m. Hawaii time on the last business day of the quarter.
• Shop in person at a participating store anytime before midnight Hawaii time on the last day of the quarter (remember to check the store’s hours).
What if I don’t have enough funds to pay for an item?
For in-store purchases, if the total cost of your purchase exceeds your card’s balance, you’ll need to pay the difference with another form of payment.
If placing an order online, you won’t be able to complete the order. so please look for items that are equal to your card’s balance. If you’ve used all your quarterly funds and have a $0 balance, you’ll need to wait until the next quarter when funds are replenished.

What items are eligible for this benefit?
All health products that are available online and in the OTC Health Products Catalog are eligible for purchase with Extra Benefits. Certain products may be a benefit of your medical or drug plan and are identified with “◆” symbol in the catalog. Please speak with your doctor before ordering these items. If they’re a benefit of your medical or drug plan, then you’ll need to submit a prescription to your pharmacy to get the items instead of using Extra Benefits.

Who qualifies for the Food and Home Utilities allowance?
The Food and Home Utilities allowance is a special supplemental benefit available only to chronically ill members with eligible chronic conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension), high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), cardiovascular disorders and other heart problems, and stroke. Other conditions may be eligible.

When does my monthly allowance for over-the-counter (OTC) products expire? (HMSA Akamai Advantage® Dual Care)
Under the HMSA Akamai Advantage® Dual Care (PPO D-SNP) plan for having certain chronic conditions you will receive a $125 monthly allowance for over-the-counter (OTC) health products, healthy food, and home utilities.
Please note that any unused funds at the end of each month will expire and will not carry over to the next month. So please remember to spend your total monthly allowance before the end of each month.
